VO Roller Bearing Headset, 1" Threaded
Roller bearing, also called "needle bearing," headsets were beloved by serious touring cyclists and by others who rode long distances on bad roads. The large roller bearings have much more surface area than ball bearings so they usually last longer and will continue to function even when badly worn. The added surface area also prevents indexing, the clicking that results from little pits formed by worn ball bearing races. Roller bearing headsets are also said to reduce fork shimmy. Unfortunately the few high quality roller bearing headsets, all made by small European manufacturers, eventually went out of production, so VO decided to bring them back.
Alloy construction with steel races for long wear. Replacement bearings are available and simply drop into place, but we bet you won't need them for a very long time. Polished finish. Stack height is 37mm; standard ISO 1" threaded only. 110g.
